Become an Industry Leader on Social Media with these 5 Tips

Richard Lee • Dec 06, 2021

If you're still relying on best practices that peaked back in 2015, you could be falling behind and losing more than just "likes.” We’re talking about money - and lots of it.

As digital tech continues to evolve, your online audiences are expecting more from the brands they love.

And in order for your business to rise in its industry ranks, social media needs to be more than just an afterthought. Rather than just complimenting your campaign, it should play an integral role in it.

That’s why today we're going to share five ways to dominate this space, spark user interests, and finally use these tools to your advantage.

1. Become an Expert Storyteller

How often do you see an online ad on social media and just keep scrolling? Promotions can serve a purpose, but their shelf life is usually short.

Are you flooding platforms with promo links and little else in your quest to score as many followers as possible? If so, you might notice that your click-through rates aren't as high as they should be.

People get enough spam throughout the day and it's the last thing they want to see. The reason your audience hops onto the internet is to:

  1. Mentally escape
  2. Connect with others
  3. Seek information about a topic

You can help them achieve all three of these goals by ditching the direct sales tactics and, instead, appeal to their human side by telling a story!

By drawing attention with a story-based post which encourages organic discussion, you can beef up your comments and spark an emotional connection with your brand.

Plus, it's no secret that SEO algorithms are designed to demote brands that appear too promotional and link-heavy. Keep it heartfelt, and you've already got their attention.

2. Tag for Exposure

Do you remember the world before “hashtags” even existed?

The handy little pound symbol was once a key to dialing phone numbers. But now, it's risen in the ranks to become one of the most useful tools of social media marketing.

We already know that adding them to your posts can help increase engagement to your content. However, there’s more to tagging than using the first hashtags that come to mind.

When picking hashtags, try to stay away from generic tags that everyone is using. When everyone is eyeing the same piece of the pie, no one gets fed.

Instead, try to use tags where you can find quality customers that might find your business useful. Even if the tag is not directly related to your business, as long as it's targeted to the right people, your efforts will convert.

3. Seek Out Influencers

If you’ve been keeping up with social media, then you’ve probably come across a few social media influencers yourself.

You know, the people promoting their favorite skin care products or the hidden-gem restaurants around the city.

These are people whose online following might not be as oversized as celebrities but have established a solid degree of credence in their space. While they might not have the massive reach as some better-known names, their humble following enables them to be more personal and engaging with their audience.

Try and reach out to the influencers in your niche for giveaways and collaborations. When your name is tied to theirs, that connection works to your advantage and sends traffic your way.

4. Digital Marketing Can Maximize Your Growth Potential

No, this is not permission for you to go out and pick a fight with the internet. But, you are allowed and even encouraged to express your opinions on issues important to your brand and its values.

Worried you'll divide your audience and lose valuable followers?

Don't be. A majority of online followers actually want brands to take a stance on social and political issues, but there's one caveat to understand: make sure you act on your message.

Whether it’s a pledge to use more recyclable goods or a stand against discrimination. Let your customers know that you're doing more than just posting to support a cause. Let them know that you are going to do something about it.

If you can establish a clear tie between your actions and your message, you will set your brand up in the right direction.

5. Mind Your Analytics

Last but not least, make sure you're paying attention to your social media analytics. These results will tell you all the strengths and weaknesses in your marketing campaigns. So it's essential that you use this information to help pave your next steps for any future campaigns.

Almost all leading social media platforms have analytic tools available for you to use, and it's free.

So dive deep into your analytics, study the performance metrics, and identify the areas where you can improve on. This will be the best thing you can do for your campaign.

Crush the Social Media Marketing Game

If there ever was a year that people were more attached to their screens, consuming content, then 2020 would be it. With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the world had no choice but to go remote.

Now, with so many businesses forced to either close down or move online, the competition will only grow from here. That means it’s imperative for businesses like yours to take advantage of this space while you can. While the old rules of social media marketing still stand, today's marketers know they aren't enough.

These five tips are designed to help get you started, but there are still other roadblocks to navigate and tips to learn. When you're ready to take your strategy to the next level, let's talk. Our team of marketing professionals are ready to help you revitalize your business and get you the results you’ve been looking for.
